Ways to secure living wages. The example of Indonesia

Indonesia is one of the ten largest export nations of clothing worldwide. If wages in the textile and clothing industry were a livelihood, a major step would have been taken towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal of ‘decent work’. A look at the real conditions in the Indonesian textile and clothing industry shows that most workers only earn minimum wages from which workers and their families cannot live in a dignified way. But how could living wages be enforced?

The study presents various approaches, from the Protocol for Freedom of Association to global framework agreements to the approaches of the German Alliance for Sustainable Textiles.
