The new economy: Catastrophic working conditions in the domestic textile industry
The article reports on an investigation into five garment factories in Serbia where workers work under catastrophic conditions: lack of temperature regulation, heat fainting, poor air quality, noise and unhygienic sanitary facilities. Frequent overtime, injuries and health problems are part of everyday life. The article sheds critical light on the practice of global brands and calls for structural improvements in labour law, better health protection and fair pay.
