#SolidarityWorks! Our work in production countries

"The union is my life. I put women workers in touch with the union. I explain to young women what their rights are and how they can hold their own in the factory."
- Rukmini, India

Support for women on the ground: Your solidarity helps

Behind the dazzling facade of the global fashion industry are massive labour and human rights violations. We support the workers and their local representatives in their struggle for fair working conditions - also financially.

In order to effectively anchor the improvement of working and living conditions for workers locally, we work with selected partner organisations in the long term, especially in India and Bangladesh. They have daily contact with the workers, many of whom are led by former seamstresses, so that they know first-hand what problems they are facing. From this knowledge, our partners develop their project ideas independently in order to enable the workers themselves to stand up for the enforcement of their rights. In doing so, we ensure that women in particular are specifically supported in their rights and needs, for example through the establishment of women-led trade unions as well as with projects for better childcare and against sexual harassment or violence.

We are regularly on site to plan together for the future and to convince ourselves that your donations arrive where they are needed.

Support for courageous women

Kalpona nude
Like many other women, she worked in clothing factories as a child to support her family. When she rebelled against inhumane working conditions, she was intimidated, threatened, physically assaulted and imprisoned. She continued to fight for her rights and those of her colleagues.
Today, Kalpona is one of the most prominent human rights activists in the fashion industry worldwide. We support Kalpona's labour law organization BCWS in Bangladesh.

Our goals

By forwarding donations to selected partner organisations, we help textile workers receive concrete help and support on site.

This is what we want to achieve:

  1. Training and counselling strengthen women and girls in particular in the knowledge of their rights and enable them to stand up for them.
  2. The interest groups of the workers are strengthened so that they can work sustainably for an improvement in the living situation of textile workers.
  3. Workers receive legal assistance in labour law issues so that they can defend themselves against violations of rights.
  4. Protests, campaigns and demonstrations increase public pressure on politics and the economy to structurally improve working conditions.

Courage alone is not enough: Financing legal aid, claiming compensation

In order to enforce or sue their rights, workers need expert legal assistance and financial support to cover litigation costs.

Workers need a lobby: Structurally Promoting Organizations

Our partner organisations support workers in organising themselves in trade unions and offer them a point of contact in the event of acute problems.

#Violence against seamstresses: Empowering women, creating structures
