For the clothing industry, there will be no return to the "Courant normal" after the pandemic. Ruthlessness and profit-seeking up to the height of the pandemic have burst supply chains, destroying trust, livelihoods and lives. Justice and sustainability are the threads from which the fashion of the future must be woven.

The article from Public Eye magazine (June 2020) provides an overall overview of the impact of the corona pandemic on the textile and clothing industry. From the lockdown in the production countries to consumer behaviour, the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic for fashion and clothing companies and in particular their supply chain are shown. In addition, recommendations for action are given for a paradigm shift in the industry.

Is Sharing Consumer Goods Really Ecologically Beneficial? The Ecology of Sharing study reviews the environmental impact of peer-to-peer sharing for the clothing, car sharing and apartment sharing sectors.

The study author Sabrina Ludmann used the data from user surveys of online platforms of the project practice partners Kleiderkreisel, Drivy, Flinc and Wimdu, which had been carried out in the project PeerSharing. She examined their current consumer behaviour and then determined the ecological impact of platform use.

Based on these empirical data, internal information of the practice partners and literature data, a quantitative model was established for each practice partner, which reflects the consumption practices of the respective area.

The environmental impacts that arise in the international supply chains of companies are often many times higher than at their locations in Germany. Today, more than ever, companies are called upon to fulfil their social responsibility also in the supply chain. The "Environmental Atlas Supply Chains" by adelphi and Systain comprehensively describes for the first time how the production of German companies abroad affects the environment.

The study examines the environmental impact of eight selected sectors in four key areas of environmental protection: Greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, water consumption, land use.

The atlas shows which environmental impacts occur at which point in the supply chains in which region of the world and how they can be minimized or completely avoided. This makes ‘hotspots’ visible to the sector concerned. Based on this, the Atlas presents solutions and instruments.

Sectors: Clothing retail, Chemical industry, Electronics industry, Automotive industry, Air conditioning, Food retail, Mechanical engineering, Metal production and processing, Paper industry
