Modern Slavery and Child Labour in Bangladesh’s Garment Sector: Documenting Risks and Informing Solutions

This report investigates the prevalence of modern slavery and child labour in Bangladesh's ready-made garment (RMG) sector. The study reveals that 100% of minors interviewed were illegally employed as child labourers in RMG factories. It also highlights that 32% of adult RMG workers surveyed are paid below the minimum wage, and 56% have experienced threats or abuse at their current job. The report provides concrete recommendations for the Bangladeshi government, international buyers, local garment suppliers, and non-governmental organisations to improve supply chain transparency, conduct risk-based human rights due diligence, adequately compensate workers, mitigate child and forced labour, and establish effective grievance mechanisms.
